Going on Six : 2 : Food

So remember yesterday, when I shared with you about my Little’s persistence on getting “chocolate bunnies” first thing in the morning? Well, the food truck doesn’t stop there. (Sorry, tried really hard to find a “food” word to replace “buck” in that metaphor.)

My little monkey happens to be the pickiest eater out of the bunch, and there’s no force feeding anything with her – not that there should be. She’s one of the first kids I know who will NOT jump at the chance to eat hot dogs, pizza, or spaghetti. It’s not a huge deal, but when it’s birthday party season (which is ALL the time), it takes a bit of strategic planning to make sure that Little will get something in her body to prevent the epic “Hangry Meltdown” at the end of the day. Usually we’ll remember to feed her something “nutritious” beforehand or pack something from her approved list of edible delights.

I’ll admit, though, that sometimes she goes through an entire pool party on chips and chips alone. I’ll attempt to stick something from the fruit platter on there, but to no avail, it ends up in the trash. And veggies? Yeah, they’re a no go. So we’ve learned to insert some strategic strategy here. (My, that’s repetitive, but so is my daughter….)

Yes, the little sugar bug is a huge fan of desserts. So we parents were able to put good use to the phrase, “If you want dessert, you’ll need to eat your _____.” Now, like I said before, I’m not a fan of force feeding. If she absolutely doesn’t love something and is against it, that’s okay. And she’s had many times where she really was full and opted to save dessert for another night.

I’m hoping there is a light at the end of this picky eater tunnel. My lunches and dinners around here have been somewhat bland and colorless. Slowly but surely, we’re able to add new things on her “winner” list. But for now, Little will be completely satisfied with mac and cheese everyday this week.
