On the Road to Colorado: A True Test of Faith

It’s been three years since I hiked through pine forests, and packed balls of roadside snow west of Colorado Springs. Three years since our children discovered the vastness of the mainland and infinite possibilities within reach. Three years since we looked up in awe at majesty of Pikes Peak, and the wonder that is the Garden of the Gods. Three years since we confirmed that we could do this. And despite a global pandemic and national unrest, the tug on our hearts remained strong and our faith did not waver in this Spirit-led decision.

And after those years of pondering and planning, our family is ready to head out on the road to Colorado. And while, literally, there is no actual road that we can take from here in Honolulu, we are stepping out on this less-than-two-year journey to reach our next home base thousands of miles away from this beautiful island we all grew up on.

As the reality of this move sets in, I know that there will be a million and one challenges that we will face, obstacles to press through, and many, many wild discoveries along the way. From beginning an initial purge of a lifetime’s worth of knickknacks, to prepping our current home to sell, to finding schools for the girls, to finding an actual home to live in up there … life is going to get a lotta bit crazy. Not to mention, life with a high school senior and two girls in middle school is enough drama for any mama!  So buckle up! It’s going to be a rollercoaster of a ride!

Currently, we have a year and eight months before we fly to our final destination; and eight months before we plan to put our current home on the market. (Um, my high schooler graduates in 7 months so cue major freakout right now!!!)  This is definitely an exciting time, but there will be a lot of tears along the way as well. It’s not going to be easy to leave this island home of 40-some years to move far from a lifetime of family and friends. Nor will it be easy for my teen/tween daughters. But it is in faith that we step out into this road, and in that same faith, we will find our strength and joy regardless of our circumstance. Also, modern technology does have its advantages!

So welcome to this road of discovering more of where we were, where we are, and where we will be. Unpacking old boxes are sure to draw out stories of yesteryear, and packing up new ones are sure to ignite their own dreams. Internal struggles between garage sales and donations, might reveal a bit of a soul struggle as well. And living out this walk of faith is honestly going to be a testimony of its own that I can not wait to share.

This is a journey I can’t do alone. Along the way, I’d love to hear any pointers or suggestions you have if you’ve been through this sort of thing, so feel free to leave any comments below, or message me anytime through email or DMs on Instagram or Facebook. I love this community here, and I know your comments and suggestions will help more than just me! Thank you for being here!
